Wafer Manufacturing Clean Room/FAB Manufacturing Facility (Confidential Client), Singapore
Scientific Fire Services has been involved in a Wafer Manufacturing Clean Room/FAB Manufacturing Facility project in Singapore as Fire Safety Engineers.
The facility included a very large compartment exceeding 40,000 m2. Multiple levels of clean rooms were separated by means of waffle floors.
There were non-compliances with the prescriptive requirements of the Singapore codes in relation to:
- Compartmentation
- Travel distances
- Engineered smoke control system
The fire safety engineering assessment of clean rooms introduces many challenges. The main source of concern is the need to maintain the clean room air filtering and recycling system operational during a fire.
It should be noted that the requirement to maintain the “clean” status of the enclosure results in objectives which are very much in line with life safety objectives.
- The methodologies and tools adopted for the assessment included:
- CFD modeling of fire engineered smoke control systems for multiple fire scenarios; and
- Computer evacuation modelling.
Scientific Fire Services has obtained approval from Singapore FSSD following a rigorous process of report submissions, meetings and peer review process.
